REIN-ing In the Federal Government

Image

D.C. bureaucrats are out of control. Federal agencies have too much power, and the regulations they create cost taxpayers trillions of dollars. Last time I checked, Article 1 of the Constitution didn’t give unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats the power to make rules in this country. That is a responsibility of Congress, given to us by the American people.

This week, I joined my colleagues in introducing the REINS Act. This bill is a crucial step towards ensuring the federal government is accountable to the American people. This act would require that any regulation with an economic impact of over $100 million be approved by Congress before taking effect. This means that Congress, which is accountable to the public, would have more oversight and control over the executive branch’s actions.

Furthermore, the REINS Act would help reduce the burden of unnecessary and overreaching regulation on businesses and individuals. By requiring that federal regulations be approved by Congress and reviewed periodically, we can ensure the American people have a greater voice in the regulatory process.

Calling Out Biden's Overregulation of Farmers

Image

The Biden Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently issued a new rule redefining “waters of the United States,” resulting in a substantial nationwide land grab by the federal government. This creates major red tape for our Michigan farmers and ranchers. Biden’s far-left EPA would regulate every puddle in America if we let them. Our farmers and ranchers in Michigan know how best to manage their land and water, not the EPA. This rule is an expansion of regulatory power that infringes on the property rights of farmers in our state.

I joined my colleagues in demanding the EPA rescind this rule immediately. To learn more, click here.

Protecting Our Strategic Oil from Unnecessary Use

Image

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is for emergencies- not scoring political points. As you all know, Biden drained our Strategic Petroleum Reserve last year to sell our nation’s emergency oil to China. Under President Biden, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve has been depleted by 36% and is at its lowest level since 1984. Since then, Biden has given us no real plan to replenish the drainage and has refused to unleash domestic oil and gas production to help refill our drained reserve. He is far more concerned with his Green New Deal agenda than with protecting our nation.

Today, Republicans passed the Strategic Petroleum Response Act, which would hold Biden and future administrations accountable by requiring a concrete plan to replenish our Strategic Petroleum Reserve whenever it is drained for a non-emergency reason.

School Choice Week

Image

This week was National School Choice Week. School choice is an important and proven way to bolster education so that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential. It gives the power of a student’s education back to the students and the parents, where it should be in the first place. I am a proud supporter of school choice and look forward to advancing policies that put students first in my role on the Education and Workforce Committee.

I had the pleasure of talking with Enes Freedom this week! His story and fight for freedom are remarkable. The United States must stand with him as he faces ongoing persecution for standing up to China and defending free speech.

Thank you for your participation in the democratic process, enjoy your weekend.

Sincerely,
