WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Lisa McClain (R-MI) voted against the repeal of the 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF).

“Repealing the 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force without having another AUMF in place is dangerous for our national security and the safety of the world,” said Rep. McClain. “I believe the 2002 AUMF is outdated and needs to be replaced with a more modern and targeted AUMF that allows the administration to pursue terrorist groups that have emerged since the beginning of the Global War on Terror, however, we should not be preventing our military from pursuing dangerous terrorists, which is exactly what repealing the AUMF does.”

Rep. McClain supports a refined, modernized AUMF that ensures the administration has the authority to target groups like Boko Haram and the Iranian Quds force.
