WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Congresswoman Lisa McClain (R-MI) sent a letter to President Biden concerning a new program being instituted by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The “Michigan Newcomer Rental Subsidy Program” would provide refugees and migrants with $500 monthly checks to pay for housing within the state. This comes as Michigan and the states across the country are being flooded with migrants and refugees coming across the crippled U.S. southern border.
“Due to the Biden Border Crisis and Democrats' unwillingness to address the crisis, every state has become a border state,” said Rep. Lisa McClain. “Now, Democrats like Governor Whitmer want to take your tax dollars to address a problem that Joe Biden refuses to take action on. This program is a slap in the face to hard-working Michiganders who are struggling to pay their bills. What sort of message is our Governor sending to the state by prioritizing migrants and illegals from the southern border over our own citizens? Where does the madness end?”
