WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, as Memorial Day weekend begins, Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) introduced legislation to rename the Saint Clair Post Office after Marine Corporal Jeffrey Robert Standfest.
Reps. Jack Bergman (R-MI), Bill Huizenga (R-MI), Peter Meijer (R-MI), John Moolenaar (R-MI), Fred Upton (R-MI), Tim Walberg (R-MI), Andy Levin (D-MI), Haley Stevens (D-MI) and Debbie Dingell (D-MI) cosponsored this legislation.
“Cpl. Standfest was an American hero who made the ultimate sacrifice and deserves to be honored by his community,” said Rep. McClain. “Renaming the St. Clair Post Office after Cpl. Standfest will provide a lasting tribute to the young Marine who was taken from us far too soon.”
Cpl. Standfest, a 2005 graduate of St. Clair High School, was only 23 years old when an improvised explosive device struck and killed him in the Helmand province of Afghanistan while he was on foot patrol with his canine, Sgt. Rupert, a bomb sniffing dog. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
