WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Lisa McClain (R-MI) voted against H.R. 1603, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act.
“I’m committed to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to ensure our farmers have the access to the labor they so desperately need. But, this bill is not the way to do it. We should not be rewarding those who are breaking our country’s laws with a pathway to citizenship,” said Rep. McClain.
While McClain supports reform to the H-2A agricultural guest worker program, she does not support granting mass amnesty and an expedited pathway to citizenship to more than a million illegal alien farmworkers and their families.
Rep. McClain remains hopeful the Senate will work in a bipartisan manner to ensure farmers get the help they need, while also addressing our broken immigration system.
