WASHINGTON – Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a clean Continuing Resolution (CR)—H.R. 1968—that freezes spending and keeps the federal government open:
“It was sad to see that most Democrats—212—stood united against America. They voted against our troops, small businesses, nutritional assistance for our children and mothers, our veterans, and relief projects. They are the true chaos agents,” McClain said. “But President Trump, Vice President Vance, and House Republicans got it done. We have given President Trump and Congress time to fulfill the people’s agenda. House Democrats will need to explain their unified opposition to the American people.”
The CR avoids a government shutdown and fully funds core government services. It:
- Extends funding at current discretionary spending levels through the remainder of the fiscal year (September 30, 2025).
- Provides $485 million to address shortfalls related to immigration detention beds and transportation and removal costs.
- Includes $6 billion in mandatory funding in the Toxic Exposure Fund to fully meet veterans’ health care needs.
- Boosts defense investments, including the largest pay raise for junior enlisted troops in over 40 years.
- Supports federal wildland firefighters.
- Protects Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid recipients.
- Increases funding for air traffic control.
- Provides $425 million for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program to deliver food packages to low-income senior adults and $7.6 billion for the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
