McClain, Dingell Lead Bipartisan Resolution Celebrating Michigan’s Victory in NCAA Championship Game

WASHINGTON— U.S. Representatives Lisa McClain (R-MI-09) and Debbie Dingell (D-MI06) led the introduction of a bipartisan resolution honoring the University of Michigan men’s basketball team for their victory in the 2026 NCAA March Madness tournament. On Monday, April 6, the Michigan Wolverines defeated the University of Connecticut Huskies to claim their first NCAA basketball title since 1989. The final score was 69-63.

"Michigan basketball gave our entire state something to celebrate. This team brought the University of Michigan community—alumni, students, and fans—together around a shared sense of pride,” Chairwoman McClain said. "Regardless of which jersey we wear in Congress, Congresswoman Dingell and I will always come together to celebrate this team. Go Blue!"

McClain, Liccardo, Young, Cortez Masto Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Expand Affordable Financing for Local Communities

WASHINGTON— Today, Representatives Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Sam Liccardo (D-Calif.), alongside Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), introduced bipartisan legislation to expand access to low-cost financing for critical community projects across the country.

The Municipal Investment and Neighborhood Transformation (MINT) Act restores and makes permanent authority for Federal Home Loan Banks to support tax-exempt municipal bonds used to finance essential housing-related infrastructure projects such as water systems, sewer upgrades, hospitals, and schools. This authority previously existed from 2008 to 2010 and helped finance nearly $4 billion in local projects before expiring.

“Communities shouldn’t have to pay higher borrowing costs simply because they lack access to Wall Street financing,” Rep. McClain said. “This bill levels the playing field by giving local lenders the tools they need to help their communities invest in infrastructure, health care, and economic development without putting taxpayers on the hook for higher interest rates. It will help unlock investment where it’s needed most.”

“As Mayor of San José, I saw firsthand how bonds help cities put more shovels in the ground on critical infrastructure,” Rep. Liccardo said. “The MINT Act cuts red tape and gives local communities a green light on projects that expand hospitals, rebuild crumbling bridges, and improve our children’s schools. “The Federal Home Loan Banks play a critical role in providing reliable liquidity to financial institutions to make local economic projects possible. Our bill will restore a proven financing tool to help lower costs for community development projects in towns across America. Bureaucratic red tape should not stand in the way of local communities accessing affordable financing,” Senator Young said.

“For too long, communities across the country have had a hard time raising the funds they need to make improvements to sewer and water systems, hospitals, schools, and more,” Senator Cortez Masto said. “Our legislation unlocks more options for these communities that were previously unavailable to them and empowers the Federal Home Loan Bank system to better fulfill its mission to support community development.”

“The Federal Home Loan Banks appreciate Representative McClain’s leadership on this important legislation,” said Ryan Donovan, President and CEO of the Council of Federal Home Loan Banks. “The MINT Act permanently restores letters of credit supporting non-housing tax-exempt bonds as a proven tool that empowers local communities to finance critical infrastructure – including schools, healthcare facilities, water systems, and other essential projects – more affordably. For more than 90 years, the FHLBanks, through their more than 6,400 members, have been a critical financial partner to municipalities across the country and this legislation improves market access for community-based lenders, promotes private investment, and eases pressure on local taxpayers.”

The MINT Act allows community banks to partner with their regional Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLBank) to obtain a standby letter of credit backing municipal bonds. Because FHLBanks maintain strong credit ratings, this backing lowers borrowing costs for local governments. Importantly, FHLBanks are privately capitalized cooperatives, and the legislation does not create a federal guarantee or taxpayer liability.

Chairwoman McClain Brings $18 Million Back to Michigan’s 9th District for Local Projects

WASHINGTON— House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today announced she secured over $18 million in federal funding for critical community projects across Michigan’s 9th Congressional District as part of the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process.

The funding supports local priorities including infrastructure improvements, public safety enhancements, and economic development initiatives that directly benefit residents and businesses across the district.

“I made a commitment to deliver real results for Michigan and bringing my constituents’ hard-earned tax dollars back home is part of that work,” Chairwoman McClain said. “These investments will strengthen our local communities, improve critical infrastructure, and support economic growth across the district. Brown City: $2 million to replace old and outdated sewer and storm water lines throughout the community.
Chesterfield Township: $2 million to replace 4,900 feet of water main along Jefferson Avenue and 1,200 feet of water main along William P. Rosso Highway.
Fort Gratiot: $1 million to install a new 6,000-foot sewer line to serve 90 homes and a church.
Harbor Beach: $2 million to replace 6,000 feet of water main which provides water service in the city and five adjacent communities.

Independence Township: $1 million for water main replacement on Maybee Road.
Lapeer County: $3.1 million to resurface Silverwood Road from Clifford Road to Castle Road for a total of six miles.
Millington: $1 million to replace aging water and sewer infrastructure and repave roads that will be torn up to repair the infrastructure.
Oakland County: $750,000 to extend sanitary drain sewer access to four communities in northwest Oakland County.
Reese: $960,000 to install a new drain system from M-81 to the country drain, mitigating flooding downtown and preventing sewer overflows.
Sandusky: $925,000 to replace the City's undersized water main, install fire hydrants, and drill a new production well to provide residents with safe and reliable water service.
St. Clair Township: $1.2 million to rehabilitate three sanitary pump stations and address ground movement near a fault line.

Chairwoman McClain Joins Michigan GOP Delegation Demanding Answers from Secretary Benson on Election Integrity

WASHINGTON— House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today joined the entire Republican Michigan congressional delegation in sending a letter to Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson demanding immediate answers and accountability following confirmed cases of non-citizens voting in Michigan elections.

“Even one illegal vote is an attack on our democracy,” Chairwoman McClain said. “Secretary Jocelyn Benson told Michiganders their elections were secure, then her own office admitted noncitizens voted in a federal election. That’s a stunning failure. The people of Michigan deserve the full truth and real accountability.”

Rep. Tim Walberg (MI-5) led the letter, which was signed by Chairwoman McClain, Jack Bergman (MI-1), John Moolenaar (MI-2), Bill Huizenga (MI-4), Tom Barrett (MI-7), and John James (MI-10).

Background:

In April 2025, Chairwoman McClain requested Secretary Benson release all findings from an investigation into the 2024 election that found 15 noncitizens voted and their ballots were included in the final election results for Michigan.

In October 2024, Chairwoman McClain sent a letter to Benson calling for answers after the Detroit News reported a Chinese national attending the University of Michigan voted illegally in the 2024 election.

At a Congressional hearing in September 2024, Benson claimed, "There is no evidence that non-citizens are voting."

Secretary Benson is publicly opposed to the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would prevent noncitizens from voting by requiring individuals to provide documents proving they are a United States citizen, such as a REAL ID, to register to vote.

Chairwoman McClain Secures Over $3 Million for Lapeer County, Brings Total End to Biden-Era Spending

The Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act:

Ends the weaponization of government by eliminating or reducing 38 programs.
Protects taxpayer dollars from funding abortion on demand.
Rescinds the Biden Administration’s massive expansion of Internal Revenue Service funding to audit everyday Americans.
Supports apprenticeship programs to build a strong American workforce.

The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act:

Includes $3.1 million for Lapeer County to resurface Silverwood Road from Clifford Road to Castle Road for a total of six miles.
Redirects $2.3 billion in wasteful Democrat priorities, including $879 million from the failed Biden Electric Vehicle Charging Network.
Codifies DOGE recommendations to reduce the federal bureaucracy of agencies by 29 percent.
Increases funding for the Federal Aviation Administration, a top Trump Administration priority, which will keep our skies safe and help build a world-class air traffic control system.

The Homeland Security Appropriations Act:

Includes $513 million to sustain 22,000 Border Patrol agents.
Provides $13.9 billion for the U.S. Coast Guard, reflecting enhancement of resources to modernize the Coast Guard and support surge operations to safeguard our border and promote national security.
Eliminates $650 million for the Shelter and Services Program, which was used by non-profits to facilitate alien transportation and housing services.

Ensures the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States has the tools to adequately scrutinize foreign investment by countries like China.
Protects Americans from deadly drugs like fentanyl by investing in the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program.

Cuts 16% or $9.3 billion in wasteful spending.

The ship is currently designated to be crewed by 31 civilian mariners and is capable of embarking up to 155 embarked forces, or an Expeditionary Medical Unit as required.

Chairwoman McClain Backs Appropriations Package, Brings $15 Million to Local Projects

“Right now, students are receiving financial aid offers that bury the true price of attendance in misleading information or fine print. The College Financial Aid Clarity Act fixes that by requiring colleges to present financial aid information clearly, consistently, and honestly. I’m proud to see this commonsense bill move forward,” Chairwoman McClain said.

The College Financial Aid Clarity Act will:

Require the U.S. Department of Education to develop a standardized, consumer-tested format for all college financial aid offers.
Mandate all institutions receiving federal funds to use this transparent format starting July 1, 2029.
Ensure plain-language, consistent terminology across all schools, with clear separation of:

Grants and scholarships vs. loans
Required program costs vs. optional cost-of-attendance items
Subsidized vs. unsubsidized loan types

Require disclosures of interest rates, fees, work-study eligibility, and annual/total net price.
Provide families with clear instructions for accepting, declining, or adjusting aid—without allowing institutions to treat electronic confirmations as acceptance.
Align cost-of-attendance definitions with program-specific metrics and strengthen compliance in institutions’ federal program participation agreements.

Chairwoman McClain Votes for Annual Defense Bill

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today applauded House passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This legislation strengthens America’s military, supports service members and their families, secures the border, and delivers major reforms to ensure the Department of War is focused on its core mission.

Additionally, the bill includes $14 million in funding for infrastructure upgrades at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Michigan ahead of the arrival of two new airframes, the F-15EX fighters and KC-46 tankers. Chairwoman McClain has long advocated for a new fighter mission at Selfridge, which she helped secure this year.

“This year’s defense bill puts America’s warfighting mission back at the forefront. No more woke distractions – and a lot less bloated bureaucracy,” said Chairwoman McClain. “I’m proud to back legislation that restores lethality, invests in critical infrastructure at Selfridge and beyond, increases troop pay, and gives our warfighters the tools they need to crush our enemies and defend America. The FY26 NDAA implements key components of Republicans’ Peace Through Strength agenda and delivers conservative wins:

•Provides a 4% pay raise for service members.

•Codifies 15 of President Trump’s executive orders, ending woke ideology at the Pentagon, securing the border, revitalizing the defense industrial base.

•Streamlines operations by eliminating $20 billion in obsolete weapons, inefficient programs, and Pentagon bureaucracy.

•Ends all DEI programs, offices, and training within the Department of War to refocus on mission readiness.

•Authorizes over $1 billion to fight drug trafficking and fully funds the deployment of National Guard and active-duty troops to support Border Patrol at the southern border.

Chairwoman McClain Commends Harbor Beach High School Football Team on Historic State Championship Win

WASHINGTON—Today, House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) took to the House floor to congratulate a local high school, the Harbor Beach Pirates, on their football team winning the state championship.

The Pirates secured their second state title in program history—and their first since 2012—with a 31-20 victory over the Hudson Tigers at Ford Field on November 28, 2025.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the Harbor Beach High School Football Team for winning the Michigan Division 8 State Championship last weekend.

The Harbor Beach Pirates took home their second State Championship in football.

Never trailing in the game, they won 31-20 at Ford Field in Detroit.

And might I add, they had a perfect 14-0 season.

So, congratulations to Coach Troy Schelke and this talented group of young men for their incredible accomplishment on the field.

Chairwoman McClain Joins President Trump for Announcement to Lower Car Costs for American Families

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) joined President Donald J. Trump at the White House today as he announced a historic reset of Biden-era federal fuel standards—an action the administration says will lower car prices and save American families $109 billion.

“The reset of CAFE standards is a win for the people who actually build and buy America’s cars—not the bureaucrats who pushed Biden’s unaffordable mandates,” said Chairwoman McClain. “It lowers prices, restores choice, and delivers long-overdue relief for Michigan’s families and auto workers.”

Chairwoman McClain attended the announcement alongside Lake Orion Plant Manager John Urbanic—whose facility is part of GM’s $4 billion investment to expand gas-powered vehicle production and create jobs in Michigan’s 9th District—as well as other Michigan auto executives.

President Trump’s announcement reverses the aggressive mandates imposed by the Biden administration, which experts projected would raise the price of a new car by nearly $1,000 and force consumers toward more expensive electric vehicles.
