Chairwoman McClain Delivers Receipts on Tax Cut Beneficiaries in New Op-Ed

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) published an op-ed in Lyceum Now.

“We passed the Working Families Tax Cuts because we believe the government does not build prosperity. The American people do,” wrote Chairwoman McClain. “So the next time Democrats say this was a tax cut for the rich, tell them to look at the receipts, because they tell a different story.”

Read the full piece below:

———

Every year, Americans get the most objective report card in politics: a tax return. And this year, according to new numbers from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the receipts didn’t lie. For months, Democrats told Americans that the Working Families Tax Cuts were a giveaway to the rich. They said it would not help working people. They said it was about corporations, not families. Then Tax Day came.

The truth is now sitting in bank accounts across the country. The average refund this filing season was over $3,200, 11 percent higher than last year and nearly 20 percent higher than the average refund over the previous four years. That is not a tax cut for the rich. That is a car repair. A grocery bill. A utility payment. A little breathing room for a family that needed it. It is relief that every single Democrat voted against.

Instead, every single Democrat voted to raise your taxes. Democrats said this bill would not help working Americans, but the receipts show that 97 percent of filers received a tax cut they would not have received without President Trump’s extension of the 2017 tax cuts. More than $82 billion has already been returned to the American people through the Working Families Tax Cuts.

Democrats said this was only for the wealthy, but, again, the receipts tell a different story. Ninety-six percent of filers receiving a tax cut earned less than $200,000. Nearly 70 percent earned less than $100,000. Democrats said this was about corporations. Wrong again. Seven and a half million workers claimed No Tax on Tips, with an average deduction of more than $7,000, and 29 million American workers claimed No Tax on Overtime, with an average deduction of more than $3,100.

Democrats said seniors would be left behind, but the receipts say more than 35 million seniors claimed the enhanced senior deduction, with an average deduction of more than $7,500. Democrats said families would not benefit, but the receipts say nearly 40 million families claimed the enhanced Child Tax Credit.

Democrats said this would make tax filing harder, but the receipts say more than 127 million filers, or 90 percent of all tax filers, claimed the permanently doubled standard deduction, with no extra paperwork. Democrats said American families would not see meaningful relief, but the receipts say more than 1.4 million filers claimed No Tax on Car Loan Interest on new American vehicles, with an average deduction of more than $1,800.

Democrats said Republicans were not investing in the next generation, but the receipts say more than 5.5 million Trump Accounts have already been opened, with 1.4 million eligible for the $1,000 pilot program contribution. Democrats said small businesses were not the focus, but the receipts say nearly 12 million small business owners are seeing an average of $7,000 in tax relief.

Here is the part Democrats cannot spin: Every single Democrat in Congress voted against it — every single one. They voted against No Tax on Tips. They voted against No Tax on Overtime. They voted against tax relief for seniors. They voted against bigger refunds for families. They voted against relief for small businesses.

And if Democrats had gotten their way, Americans would be staring down a 22 percent tax hike right now. That would have meant nearly $5 trillion more taken out of Americans’ pockets and sent to Washington. House Republicans said no.

We passed the Working Families Tax Cuts because we believe the government does not build prosperity. The American people do. So the next time Democrats say this was a tax cut for the rich, tell them to look at the receipts, because they tell a different story. They tell the story of a waitress keeping more of her tips. A factory worker keeping more of their overtime. A senior keeping more of their Social Security. A family getting a bigger refund. A small business owner finally having room to grow. That is who Republicans fought for; that is who Democrats voted against.

This Tax Day, the receipts didn’t lie.

Rep. Lisa McClain: A Salute Is Not a Substitute for a Vote; Veterans Deserve More Than Biden Era Patriotism

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) published an op-ed in Breitbart highlighting House Republicans’ efforts to support veterans, restore military readiness, and reverse Biden-Era policies that harmed servicemembers and military families.

“Republicans are still demanding answers because the families of the fallen deserve more than excuses,” wrote Chairwoman McClain. “They deserve leaders who protect their rights, expand their care, honor their families, fix broken systems, and keep politics out of the chain-of-command. They deserve a country that remembers the fallen by respecting the living.”

____

Memorial Day reminds us of the price of freedom. This weekend is a time to remember the Americans who gave everything, and to sit with the terrible weight of what freedom costs. It is also a time to keep faith with the men and women who served beside them. Veterans do not need another round of polished speeches from politicians who forget them after the wreaths are laid.

For years, former servicemembers watched Washington move faster for almost every political priority except them. The same bureaucrats who always found money and urgency for illegal immigrants and climate programs told veterans to wait in line.

During the Biden Administration, the VA’s benefits claim backlog rose 24 percent. Under President Trump, it has fallen 63 percent. That contrast says a lot about the different priorities driving Washington today.

House Veterans’ Affairs Republicans advanced the Veterans ACCESS Act to give veterans more control over where they receive care. It shouldn’t be a controversial piece of legislation, yet almost every Democrat on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee voted against it.

A bill to help severely disabled veterans and Gold Star families came before Congress, and Democrats found a reason to vote no.

The same divide is evident when it comes to our servicemembers rights. The Biden Administration discharged more than 8,700 servicemembers under its COVID vaccine mandate, all during the worst recruiting crisis in decades. Republicans fought and won to end the mandate and reinstate those troops with back pay and full rank.

We are now also fighting to protect veterans from losing their 2nd Amendment rights simply for using VA benefits. For years, veterans who needed help managing their finances could be reported to the federal background check system without due process. Republicans are advancing legislation to ensure the men and women who defended the Constitution are not punished for using the benefits they earned.

The contrast is just as clear inside the military. Under Biden, our military was dragged into a political experiment. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion became a government-wide priority. Biden’s Pentagon pushed climate plans, pronoun guidance, and DEI bureaucracy while recruiting numbers and collapsed.

Our troops do not need political lectures. They need good training, safe housing, modern equipment, and leaders focused on bringing them home. They need a country that respects sacrifice more than social engineering. That is why House Republicans are pushing the military back toward mission, away from woke distractions, to restore a culture that honors service instead of apologizing for it.

We just passed the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which, in addition to cutting nonsense DEI programs, provides $157 billion for our troops, veterans, and military families. It fully funds veterans’ health care. It invests in mental health, suicide prevention, homelessness programs, medical research, prosthetics, barracks, and military housing.

Yet for many veterans, no issue better symbolizes Washington’s failures than the catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan. Abbey Gate was a national tragedy, an unnecessary one. Thirteen American servicemembers were killed. Many more were wounded. Families were shattered. Veterans who carried that mission for 20 years watched the withdrawal collapse into chaos. I am so proud that one of the first bills I passed into law was to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the thirteen servicemembers who perished in that attack.

The Biden Administration wanted the photo op of ending a war. They ignored the cost. They prioritized optics over security. They handed terrorists a victory, abandoned our allies, and created a wound that many veterans will carry for the rest of their lives.

Republicans are still demanding answers because the families of the fallen deserve more than excuses. They deserve leaders who protect their rights, expand their care, honor their families, fix broken systems, and keep politics out of the chain-of-command. They deserve a country that remembers the fallen by respecting the living.

This Memorial Day, we remember the fallen. We pray for their families. We honor every American who gave everything for this country.

Remembrance must come with responsibility. A salute is not a substitute for a vote. Republicans will always ensure veterans have leaders who do more than just thank them.

Chairwoman McClain, Sandra Benitez Pen Joint Op-Ed on How Hispanic Businesses Benefit from the Working Families Tax

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and LIBRE Initiative Executive Director Sandra Benitez published a joint op-ed in The Hill.

“Too often, Washington treats Hispanic Americans as a political constituency first and an economic force second,” wrote Chairwoman McClain and Director Benitez. “But Hispanic entrepreneurs are looking for something more concrete: the freedom and certainty to grow their businesses, hire workers, and invest in their communities.”

Read the full piece below:

Washington has spent decades treating the Hispanic community as a monolithic voting bloc rather than recognizing the economic dynamism of Hispanic-owned businesses and working families.

But as we saw firsthand during a Working Families Tax Cuts roundtable at Sergio’s restaurant in South Florida, Hispanic entrepreneurs are not asking for political slogans. They are focused on growing their businesses, hiring workers, and creating opportunity in their communities.

This is playing out in many family restaurants, contracting firms, nail salons, and neighborhood shops where families are building their futures from the ground up.

One of us comes from the world of small business and understands what it means to make payroll when employees and families are counting on you.?I still remember the day we finally had a surplus on our balance sheet — we celebrated it like the Super Bowl. For owners of small businesses, success is not just financial. Employees become extended family, and businesses become economic engines for the community.

Small businesses create opportunity, but they also create community. You watch employees build careers, raise families, send their kids to college, and sometimes see the next generation come back to work alongside you. That kind of investment cannot be measured only on a balance sheet.

Hispanic-owned businesses are one of the fastest-growing forces in the American economy. Census data shows Hispanic-owned employer firms account for nearly 496,000 businesses and $730 billion in receipts. Nearly all of them are small businesses built through long hours, risk-taking, and strong ties to their communities.

Too often, Washington treats Hispanic Americans as a political constituency first and an economic force second. But Hispanic entrepreneurs are looking for something more concrete: the freedom and certainty to grow their businesses, hire workers, and invest in their communities.

Despite unanimous Democratic opposition, Republicans made the 20 percent small business tax deduction permanent, protecting millions of job creators from tax increases and giving growing businesses greater certainty to invest and expand.

Without action, many growing small businesses would have faced a significant tax increase as key provisions expired. Instead, the Working Families Tax Cuts preserved the certainty small-business owners need to plan, hire and grow.

Republicans acted to protect small businesses from a major tax increase and strengthen policies that help workers and entrepreneurs keep more of what they earn. At Sergio’s, we saw what these policies mean in practice. Small-business owners want the freedom to grow, invest in their communities, and build something they can pass on to the next generation.

Washington should stop lecturing Hispanic Main Street and start respecting it.

Chairwoman McClain Applauds Funding to Upgrade Selfridge Air National Guard Base

WASHINGTON— House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) applauded $152 million in state funding to support runway and taxiway upgrades at Selfridge Air National Guard Base ahead of the arrival of the new F-15EX fighter mission.

"Selfridge is a critical component of America's national defense and a massive economic engine for Michigan," Chairwoman McClain said. "The F-15EX mission was an important upgrade to our airspace capabilities, but now we need to finish the job. Republicans are making sure Selfridge has the runway, infrastructure, and support needed to keep America dominant in the skies and keep thousands of Michigan jobs right where they belong.”

The funding will support critical runway and taxiway upgrades needed to prepare Selfridge for the incoming F-15EX mission. The new F-15EX fighter mission allows advanced fighter aircraft to fly through Selfridge and strengthens America's ability to defend U.S. airspace. Selfridge supports more than 30,000 jobs statewide and contributes an estimated $850 million to Michigan's economy while serving as a key hub for Michigan's defense industry.

Chairwoman McClain Pays Tribute to Hometown Hero Deputy Bradley Reckling During National Police Week

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) joined House Republicans to highlight legislation supporting law enforcement officers and reaffirm House Republicans’ commitment to public safety during National Police Week.

Remarks as prepared for delivery:

Good morning everyone. This week is National Police Week.

And House Republicans are making something very clear: We Back the Blue.

Not just with words. With action.

Because while too many Democrats demonize police officers, excuse violent criminals, and side with chaos, Republicans are standing with the men and women who put on the badge and walk toward danger every single day.

And this week, we’re bringing bills to the Floor to support law enforcement and help keep our communities safe.

Let’s remember what this week is really about.

It’s about people. It’s about families.

It’s about heroes like Deputy Sheriff Bradley Reckling.

Deputy Reckling, from my hometown of Romeo, Michigan, was a nine-year veteran of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

In 2024, he was ambushed and murdered in the line of duty, leaving behind his wife, three young daughters, and a baby on the way.

Deputy Reckling stood between violent criminals and innocent people. And he is exactly why we must Back the Blue.

Earlier this week, I joined the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department for a ride-along and spent time with Deputy Miehlke, who has served in law enforcement for more than twenty years.

We talked about House Republicans’ push for No Tax on Overtime and the difference it is making for officers and their families.

Because when officers put in extra hours protecting their communities, they deserve to keep more of what they earn.

But what stuck with me most was hearing that after twenty years on the job, his wife still worries every time he leaves for work.

That fear never fully goes away for police families.

And yet too many on the Left continue attacking the very people who stand between law and order and chaos.

Public safety matters.

Law and order matters.

And it is the brave men and women in law enforcement who make both possible.

This week, House Republicans are proud to honor our law enforcement officers and proudly say: We support the men and women in blue.

Chairwoman McClain Joins Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for National Police Week Ride-Along

ORION TOWNSHIP, MICH.— House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) visited the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Orion Substation and joined them on a patrol for National Police Week.

“Thank you to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Miehlke for bringing me along and showing me what our law enforcement officers do every day,” Chairwoman McClain said. “These men and women do not just respond when things go wrong. They help hold our communities together during difficult moments, including the water crisis families in Orion Township are facing right now. I also heard firsthand how No Tax on Overtime is helping officers who are putting in extra hours to keep our communities safe. House Republicans will always back the men and women in uniform who protect and serve.”

Chairwoman McClain met with deputies and thanked them for their service to the community before joining Deputy Miehlke for a patrol ride-along through Orion Township. During the patrol, Deputy Miehlke conducted two traffic stops for violations of Michigan’s Hands-Free Driving Law related to texting while driving.

National Police Week runs from May 10 through May 16, 2026, with Peace Officers Memorial Day observed on May 15. The week honors law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice and recognizes the men and women who continue to serve.

Chairwoman McClain Highlights a Tax Season that Delivers for the Whole Family

WASHINGTON— House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) published an op-ed in The Detroit News, highlighting how the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering tax relief for Americans at every stage of life.

Select excerpts from Chairwoman McClain’s column are below. The full piece is available here.

“Most people do not circle Tax Day on the calendar with excitement. But this year, families across America are opening their returns and seeing something worth celebrating: a bigger tax refund…

“The Working Families Tax Cuts were built for the people who do the heavy lifting in this country. Not Wall Street. Not bureaucrats. Families…

“Republicans did not write a bill for one slice of America. We wrote one that follows a family through life. It helps parents welcome a child. It helps workers keep more of what they earn. It helps employers step up for their employees and our economy. And it helps seniors hold on to more of the money they earned…

“That is what good tax policy looks like.”

Chairwoman McClain Highlights Working Families Tax Cuts as Return to America’s Founding Principles

WASHINGTON— House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Tom Schatz, president of Citizens Against Government Waste, published an op-ed in the Washington Examiner, highlighting how the Working Families Tax Cuts continue the Founding Fathers’ fight against over taxation and deliver real relief for working families.

Select excerpts from Chairwoman McClain and Tom Schatz’s column are below. The full piece is available here.

“When President Donald Trump signed the Working Families Tax Cuts into law on July 4, it was more than a legislative achievement. It was a recommitment to our founding values of liberty and putting power back into the hands of the people. It was a line in the sand: Keep your hands off Americans’ paychecks…

“Now, Americans are reaping the benefits, taking home tax refunds that are 11 percent higher on average than last year…

“With the Working Families Tax Cuts, we cut waste and threw excess taxes overboard. In doing so, Trump and congressional Republicans have kick-started America’s next 250 years by returning power (and money) to the people once again.”

WASHINGTON— U.S. Representatives Lisa McClain (R-MI-09) and Debbie Dingell (D-MI06) led the introduction of a bipartisan resolution honoring the University of Michigan men’s basketball team for their victory in the 2026 NCAA March Madness tournament. On Monday, April 6, the Michigan Wolverines defeated the University of Connecticut Huskies to claim their first NCAA basketball title since 1989. The final score was 69-63.

"Michigan basketball gave our entire state something to celebrate. This team brought the University of Michigan community—alumni, students, and fans—together around a shared sense of pride,” Chairwoman McClain said. "Regardless of which jersey we wear in Congress, Congresswoman Dingell and I will always come together to celebrate this team. Go Blue!"

“Congratulations to the Michigan Wolverines on their historic win. Their victory is the culmination of their hard work, discipline, and dedication, and they represent the best of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the United States. It is an honor to join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in uplifting their remarkable teamwork and success. Go Blue!” said Congresswoman Dingell.

Additional lawmakers supporting the resolution include Tom Barrett (R-MI-07), Jack Bergman (R-MI-01), Bill Huizenga (R-MI-04), Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI-08), John Moolenaar (R-MI-02), Hillary Scholten (D-MI-03), Haley Stevens (D-MI-11), Shri Thanedar (D-MI-13), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI-12), and Tim Walberg (R-MI-05).

In addition to the support demonstrated by members of Michigan's U.S. House delegation, University of Michigan alum serving in the U.S. House of Representatives also signed on, including Janelle Bynum (D-OR-05), Grace Meng (D-NY-06), Greg Stanton (D-AZ-04), and Lauren Underwood (D-IL-14).

A copy of the resolution can be found HERE.

Chairwoman McClain: Democrats Continue Putting Violent Criminals Over American Security

WASHINGTON—House Republican Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement after Democrats voted to keep the Department of Homeland Security shut down in the middle of an international conflict with Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terror:

“Democrats just voted to put violent illegal aliens ahead of the safety of the American people. That is undeniably reckless,” Chairwoman McClain said. “After September 11, we created a department dedicated to stopping terrorists before they strike our homeland. At this moment in history, Democrats have chosen to shut it down for political theater. You don’t play games with America’s security. It’s time for Democrats to drop the politics, fully fund our homeland security and start putting the safety of the American people first.”

McClain, Liccardo, Young, Cortez Masto Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Expand Affordable Financing for Local Communities

WASHINGTON— Today, Representatives Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Sam Liccardo (D-Calif.), alongside Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), introduced bipartisan legislation to expand access to low-cost financing for critical community projects across the country.

The Municipal Investment and Neighborhood Transformation (MINT) Act restores and makes permanent authority for Federal Home Loan Banks to support tax-exempt municipal bonds used to finance essential housing-related infrastructure projects such as water systems, sewer upgrades, hospitals, and schools. This authority previously existed from 2008 to 2010 and helped finance nearly $4 billion in local projects before expiring.

“Communities shouldn’t have to pay higher borrowing costs simply because they lack access to Wall Street financing,” Rep. McClain said. “This bill levels the playing field by giving local lenders the tools they need to help their communities invest in infrastructure, health care, and economic development without putting taxpayers on the hook for higher interest rates. It will help unlock investment where it’s needed most.”

“As Mayor of San José, I saw firsthand how bonds help cities put more shovels in the ground on critical infrastructure,” Rep. Liccardo said. “The MINT Act cuts red tape and gives local communities a green light on projects that expand hospitals, rebuild crumbling bridges, and improve our children’s schools. I look forward to working with colleagues in both houses and both parties to pass this bill, and help deliver the resources our cities need to thrive.”

“The Federal Home Loan Banks play a critical role in providing reliable liquidity to financial institutions to make local economic projects possible. Our bill will restore a proven financing tool to help lower costs for community development projects in towns across America. Bureaucratic red tape should not stand in the way of local communities accessing affordable financing,” Senator Young said.

“For too long, communities across the country have had a hard time raising the funds they need to make improvements to sewer and water systems, hospitals, schools, and more,” Senator Cortez Masto said. “Our legislation unlocks more options for these communities that were previously unavailable to them and empowers the Federal Home Loan Bank system to better fulfill its mission to support community development.”

“The Federal Home Loan Banks appreciate Representative McClain’s leadership on this important legislation,” said Ryan Donovan, President and CEO of the Council of Federal Home Loan Banks. “The MINT Act permanently restores letters of credit supporting non-housing tax-exempt bonds as a proven tool that empowers local communities to finance critical infrastructure – including schools, healthcare facilities, water systems, and other essential projects – more affordably. For more than 90 years, the FHLBanks, through their more than 6,400 members, have been a critical financial partner to municipalities across the country and this legislation improves market access for community-based lenders, promotes private investment, and eases pressure on local taxpayers.”

The MINT Act allows community banks to partner with their regional Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLBank) to obtain a standby letter of credit backing municipal bonds. Because FHLBanks maintain strong credit ratings, this backing lowers borrowing costs for local governments. Importantly, FHLBanks are privately capitalized cooperatives, and the legislation does not create a federal guarantee or taxpayer liability.

Representatives Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.), Darin LaHood (R-Ill.), Steven Horsford (D-Nev.), and Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez (D-Wash.) are original cosponsors of the legislation.

###

House Passes McClain Bill to Stop Bad Data from Wrecking American Jobs

WASHINGTON—Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6329, the Quality Information Assurance Act, legislation led by House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.). The bill reins in unelected bureaucrats and forces federal agencies to base massive regulatory decisions on real facts—not sloppy analysis or political agendas.

“Washington bureaucrats shouldn’t be allowed to gamble with American jobs and family budgets using bad data,” Chairwoman McClain said. “For too long, agencies have pushed billion-dollar regulations behind closed doors with little accountability. This bill shines a light on the process and puts the American people back in charge.”

The Quality Information Assurance Act cracks down on the reckless regulatory culture in Washington by requiring federal agencies to use objective, high-quality data when writing rules that affect workers, families, farmers, and job creators. It strengthens oversight, raises information standards, and blocks costly regulations built on flawed or incomplete analysis.

Read the full bill here.

WASHINGTON— House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today announced she secured over $18 million in federal funding for critical community projects across Michigan’s 9th Congressional District as part of the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process.

The funding supports local priorities including infrastructure improvements, public safety enhancements, and economic development initiatives that directly benefit residents and businesses across the district.

“I made a commitment to deliver real results for Michigan and bringing my constituents’ hard-earned tax dollars back home is part of that work,” Chairwoman McClain said. “These investments will strengthen our local communities, improve critical infrastructure, and support economic growth across the district. I am proud to champion projects that were identified by local leaders and will have a meaningful, long-term impact for the people I represent.”

Below is a list of community projects Chairwoman McClain secured funding for:

Chairwoman McClain Joins Michigan GOP Delegation Demanding Answers from Secretary Benson on Election Integrity

WASHINGTON— House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today joined the entire Republican Michigan congressional delegation in sending a letter to Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson demanding immediate answers and accountability following confirmed cases of non-citizens voting in Michigan elections.

“Even one illegal vote is an attack on our democracy,” Chairwoman McClain said. “Secretary Jocelyn Benson told Michiganders their elections were secure, then her own office admitted noncitizens voted in a federal election. That’s a stunning failure. The people of Michigan deserve the full truth and real accountability.”

Rep. Tim Walberg (MI-5) led the letter, which was signed by Chairwoman McClain, Jack Bergman (MI-1), John Moolenaar (MI-2), Bill Huizenga (MI-4), Tom Barrett (MI-7), and John James (MI-10).

Read the full letter here.

Background:

In April 2025, Chairwoman McClain requested Secretary Benson release all findings from an investigation into the 2024 election that found 15 noncitizens voted and their ballots were included in the final election results for Michigan.

In October 2024, Chairwoman McClain sent a letter to Benson calling for answers after the Detroit News reported a Chinese national attending the University of Michigan voted illegally in the 2024 election.

At a Congressional hearing in September 2024, Benson claimed, "There is no evidence that non-citizens are voting."

Secretary Benson is publicly opposed to the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would prevent noncitizens from voting by requiring individuals to provide documents proving they are a United States citizen, such as a REAL ID, to register to vote.

Chairwoman McClain Secures Over $3 Million for Lapeer County, Brings Total End to Biden-Era Spending

WASHINGTON— House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today highlighted major wins for Michigan following House Republicans’ passage of the final four appropriations bills. In doing so, Congress has fully eliminated Biden-era spending and replaced it with President Trump’s safer, stronger, and more secure America First Agenda. The new funding bills include a $3 million infrastructure investment in Lapeer County.

“Michigan delivered a mandate: The out-of-control government spending had to go,” Chairwoman McClain said. “Today, we accomplished just that, while also prioritizing investments in critical infrastructure projects, like those being conducted in Lapeer County. The reality is simple: Republicans are putting taxpayer dollars where they belong—into safer roads, stronger communities, and projects that actually serve real people.”

Highlights from each funding bill are below:

The Defense Appropriations Act:

Strengthens America’s military superiority by boosting munitions production, investing in next-generation aircraft, missile defense, and space programs.

Delivers a 3.8 percent pay raise for all service members.

Includes $13.4 billion for missile defense and space programs in support of the Golden Dome effort.

Ensures no funding for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, Critical Race Theory, or abortion-related travel.

The Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act:

Ends the weaponization of government by eliminating or reducing 38 programs.

Protects taxpayer dollars from funding abortion on demand.

Rescinds the Biden Administration’s massive expansion of Internal Revenue Service funding to audit everyday Americans.

Supports apprenticeship programs to build a strong American workforce.

The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act:

Includes $3.1 million for Lapeer County to resurface Silverwood Road from Clifford Road to Castle Road for a total of six miles.

Redirects $2.3 billion in wasteful Democrat priorities, including $879 million from the failed Biden Electric Vehicle Charging Network.

Codifies DOGE recommendations to reduce the federal bureaucracy of agencies by 29 percent.

Increases funding for the Federal Aviation Administration, a top Trump Administration priority, which will keep our skies safe and help build a world-class air traffic control system.

The Homeland Security Appropriations Act:

Includes $513 million to sustain 22,000 Border Patrol agents.

Provides $13.9 billion for the U.S. Coast Guard, reflecting enhancement of resources to modernize the Coast Guard and support surge operations to safeguard our border and promote national security.

Eliminates $650 million for the Shelter and Services Program, which was used by non-profits to facilitate alien transportation and housing services.

Enhances resources to detect and counter the spread of deadly drugs, like fentanyl, that poison our communities.

Chairwoman McClain Votes to Fund America First Agenda, Deliver Peace Through Strength

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today voted to pass a two-bill appropriations package for Fiscal Year 2026 that advances Republican priorities, reins in Washington spending, and reverses the damage caused by years of failed Biden-era leadership.

With passage of the Financial Services and General Government and the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations Act of 2026, House Republicans have passed 8 full-year funding bills.

“House Republicans are once again proving that funding responsible, America First policies delivers results,” Chairwoman McClain said. “This bill ensures America stands strong against our enemies and defends our values without asking hardworking families to foot the bill for failed woke experiments. We are turning the page on reckless Biden policies and putting our nation back on a path of strength, security, and accountability, all while cutting spending.”

Highlights from each section of the bill are below:

Financial Services and General Government:

Prohibits the IRS from targeting individuals for exercising their First Amendment rights.

Maintains “Buy American” provisions that maximize the federal government’s use of services, goods, products, and materials produced and offered in the United States.

Ensures the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States has the tools to adequately scrutinize foreign investment by countries like China.

Protects Americans from deadly drugs like fentanyl by investing in the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program.

Chairwoman McClain Honored as Ship Sponsor for USNS Lansing

MOBILE, Ala.—Today, during a christening ceremony, House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) was designated as a sponsor of the USNS Lansing, the first naval vessel named for Michigan’s capital city. This distinction permanently links Lansing to the Navy’s mission of national defense and global security.

“Michigan is the Arsenal of Democracy. We build what America needs to defend itself,” Chairwoman McClain said. “Having Lansing’s name sail the seas in service to our country is a powerful reminder that Michigan will always stand shoulder to shoulder with the men and women who defend our freedom. I am deeply grateful to all who will serve on this ship – now and into the future – and remain humbled by the honor of being named as her sponsor.”

Chairwoman McClain was named a sponsor alongside Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Ship sponsors traditionally serve as a symbol of good luck and protection for the vessel and all who sail aboard her. That connection endures throughout the ship’s entire service life, reinforcing the personal and historical significance of the role.

The USNS Lansing is a Spearhead-class Expeditionary Fast Transport, designed to rapidly move personnel, equipment, and medical capabilities in support of U.S. military and humanitarian missions around the world. The ship is currently designated to be crewed by 31 civilian mariners and is capable of embarking up to 155 embarked forces, or an Expeditionary Medical Unit as required.

Chairwoman McClain Backs Appropriations Package, Brings $15 Million to Local Projects

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today voted in favor of the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act, 2026. The three-bill funding package focuses on fiscal responsibility, public safety, and national security, while providing full-year funding.

“Republicans are doing what Democrats refuse to do: cutting spending, lowering costs, strengthening national security, and governing responsibly,” Chairwoman McClain said. “I fought to deliver full-year funding that invests in our district’s infrastructure and public safety—without the chaos of Democrat shutdown threats or their bloated bureaucracy. Michigan families want results, not excuses, and I’ll keep fighting to make sure Washington works for them, not itself.”

Chairwoman McClain secured over $15 million for 12 local infrastructure projects in the package. The projects are listed below:

Bad Axe: $750,000 for installing new water, storm, and sewer mains along Silver Street to Liberty Street.

Brown City: $2 million to replace old and outdated sewer and storm water lines throughout the community.

Chesterfield Township: $2 million to replace 4,900 feet of water main along Jefferson Avenue and 1,200 feet of water main along William P. Rosso Highway.

Fort Gratiot: $1 million to install a new 6,000-foot sewer line to serve 90 homes and a church.

Harbor Beach: $2 million to replace 6,000 feet of water main which provides water service in the city and five adjacent communities.

Imlay City: $1.75 million to replace existing lead service lines, water mains, and sewer mains along 4th Street.

Independence Township: $1 million for water main replacement on Maybee Road.

Millington: $1 million to replace aging water and sewer infrastructure and repave roads that will be torn up to repair the infrastructure.

Oakland County: $750,000 to extend sanitary drain sewer access to four communities in northwest Oakland County.

Reese: $960,000 to install a new drain system from M-81 to the country drain, mitigating flooding downtown and preventing sewer overflows.

Sandusky: $925,000 to replace the City's undersized water main, install fire hydrants, and drill a new production well to provide residents with safe and reliable water service.

St. Clair Township: $1.2 million to rehabilitate three sanitary pump stations and address ground movement near a fault line.

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement today on the passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa:

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa. Doug was not only a valued colleague and friend, but a devoted public servant who poured his heart into serving the people of Northern California. He cared deeply about his constituents and worked tirelessly to represent their voices, values, and livelihoods in Congress. His love for his district and commitment to public service were evident in everything he did. My prayers are with his wife, Jill, their family, his staff, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. Doug’s legacy of service, integrity, and dedication will never be forgotten.”
